I Became a Barbie Girl in a Barbie World

Let's go on a Barbie staycation with me!

On my Instagram post, you can find my caption saying: “No words other than the 11-year-old in me is still crying since we checked out.” But for this, I have to find more words in me to spell out the magical experience I had throughout my Barbie Ultimate Staycation!

I think it is safe to say that while the latest attraction at Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur would be a little girl’s dream come true, it was also music to the ears of the millennials when the news came out that we could relive our Barbie playhouse fantasy! Growing up with Barbie and donning every possible Barbie merchandise I could fork out of my parents, and collecting the monthly Barbie magazine without fail, you can only imagine how excited I was to learn of this collaboration between Grand Hyatt and Mattel.

Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur, or GHKL, has dedicated a whole floor to accommodate a total of 14 Barbie-themed rooms, including three Barbie-themed suites. The rooms were given three different themes: You Can Be Anything, Fancy, and EXTRA. My friend and I had the chance to spend one night at the colourful You Can Be Anything room, complete with different costumes (kid-sized) for the kids to play pretend.

I may not fit into those cute costumes, but I was still giddy as my eyes laid upon the huge dollhouse! You best believe I spent my sweet time playing with it albeit my deteriorating imagination. All I could think of was how advanced the toys have gotten! Just as a heads up, since your stay is equipped with many props to play with, you will have to prepare a good amount of booking deposit (RM1000 per stay, RM300 per night), just to be safe!

The room includes breakfast at GHKL’s THIRTY8 Restaurant, Bar & Lounge, as well as an unforgettable hi-tea session at the exclusive Barbie Café to complete your dream Barbie staycation. Every nook and cranny of the café promises an Instagrammable shot so be sure to clear your storage before this tea sesh! (Pro tip: Dress in pink or in your best Barbie-inspired outfit to fit the theme) You will be served with an enchanting spread of savoury and sweet bite-sized delicacies in various colours to complement the whole Barbie theme. You can also opt for an intimate afternoon tea or a romantic dinner at Barbie Café without spending the night, but bear in mind that they currently operate strictly on a reservation basis. Make sure you are fully vaccinated too!
