Telekom Museum

WP Kuala Lumpur

Muzium Telekom Virtual Tour welcomes you into Malaysia's first interactive telecommunications experience centre.

Built in 1928, the museum building was once the office for manual telephone exchange. During the early 1980s, it was used to store telephone equipment in Kuala Lumpur.

In 1985, former Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad proposed that the building can become a national heritage, after which Telekom Malaysia turned it into a museum.

The building of Muzium Telekom showcases distinct Neoclassical architecture, with its 8 iconic columns along one of its two entrances. There is also its Palladian architectural style which can be found in its open courtyard and archways.

Within the museum, you can see fascinating informative displays, artefacts, and replicas that depict the birth and evolution of telecommunications in Malaysia. As you navigate through the various floors of the Muzium Telekom, you will encounter a unique blend of historical charm and modern technology. Each room in the museum is dedicated to a different era or aspect of telecommunications technology.

From the early days of manual switchboards to the advent of mobile phones, the museum showcases a plethora of devices and technologies that have shaped the way Malaysians communicate. Interactive exhibits allow visitors to engage directly with the history of telecommunications, making the learning experience both educational and entertaining.

Explore Muzium Telekom in this virtual exploration, and discover the nation’s telecommunication history, from ancient communication systems to the telegraph and the digital revolution of the 20th century.
